Review # 79 :Ken’s Market Brandy Maple Marinade

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Kens Maple Brandy marinade
Recently, the grocery store I work at has put out a line of various things;sauces, marinades, chili, cocktail olives stuffed with blue cheese. For the first time I tried one of them. It was, as you may have read, Brandy Maple MArinade. I used it on a top round steak I got for around 5 bucks. I let it soak for about two hours before broiling it. It turned out real well. It was sweet but not overpowering, and accented the yukon golds I boiled up nicley. I only have 2 suggestions as to use it better:
1.Use a better cut of meat
2. Soak it for a lot longer.
I plan on trying both of these suggestions. I’ll report back.

Review #71, part 2: Hippie Wedding continued

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

The day before the wedding I was recovering from my blackout the night before. I don’t recall feeling very sick, just tired mostly. Josh and Bethany came over to the friends’ house I was staying out to prepare food for the next day.
Chopping an onionIt was informally called a “grilling party” wich I thought, like the bachelor party, was a misnomer since those that live there don’t necessarily like a lot of people coming over. They marinated tofu and chopped and grilled up vegetables while I sat around. That night was uneventful. We rented Reno 911 season 3 and ate waffles, eggs and sausages, the real, big, good, spicy kind.
The grill
The next morning came and I couln’t wait to get dressed up. I love dressing up, I just never have an excuse to do it. If I have total control over my wardrobe, and since I’m not a child, I do, I can clean up real nice and can still maintain my impeccable style. This time was no exception. I looked good.
me, oh, me
The weather that day could not have been better if Josh and Bethany had a weather-controlling machine. It was clear and warm but not hot. I had on nothing but polyester, save my socks and underwear, but still didn’t break a sweat. This was incredible since it had been reaching the 90’s and 100’s in California at the time.
Thw wedding took place at a river, staring at the picnic table of the neighboring disc golf course. Seeing everyone ther in one place was like a dream come true.(Except Ryan Pintar wasn’t there and I’m ddomed to guilt for eternity. Y’know, Kaydee wasn’t there either and she lives in Arcata!)
Sagar and Adrian

Rachel ,Garrett and Jenny There was a procession with all the guests marching to the river bank where Josh, Bethany, Garrett and others waded into the water to begin the nuptuals. I’m not even going to try to describe Garrett’s, um..speech? What do you call that part of the wedding, where the precher does all the talking? anyway, the part that sticks with me is something along the lines of :”The key master has found the gatekeeper.” Since I’m sure the ceremony will be available in digital format soon, thats all I will say about it.
The crowd then returned to the picnic table where food prepared the day before was presented on trays and whatnot and guests proceeded to , well, eat. The kegs were tapped, and I found out only a couple of days ago that it was Stephanie (my roomate) who actually attatched the taps. I was impressed, not because she’s a girl, but becaus eI didn’t know she had such a useful ability. I couldn’t do it….

Well, I realize now that I don’t have it in me to continue and the goings on of the reception will have to wait. There will be no review of the after-party. To find out why, read what happens at the reception when I get to it.

Review#78: My day off

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Today was pretty cool. I woke up after 3 hours of sleep and started some laundry. I went to Jack in the Box for breakfast. Nothing special there. I went back to bed at about 9:30, woke up at quarter to 12, got my clothes out of the dryer then met with my friend Nate at the comic book store. We ate and Denny’s, then I came home and started to clean my room. To see how well that went, see my last review. I was able to wash a second load of laundry. That’s almost unheard of since 8 units share one washer and one dryer. I am now on my second beer and will soon be on my way to Jakes house for a noise show. This is always a good excuse for me to get drunk.

Review#77: My bookshelf

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

I was cleaning my room about an hour ago when my bookshelf decided to crumble to peices right before me. I did what anyone else would do…I took one of the shelves and swung it at the remaining structure effectivley breaking off a peice of particle board and knocking my television (wich was on) over in the process. Now not only is my room not clean, it’s messier than it was in the first place.

Review #76: Perry Bible Fellowship

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

These comics were reviewed on the Lick the Pole review site (see links) and when I tried to look at them the first time it didn’t work. This weekend I was finally able to read them and this is some of the funniest shit I have seen in a long time. The humor is morbid, ironic and cynical, if not subtle, and the artwork is not only beautiful but impressively diverse. There are new cartoons on Sundays, the site says. I hope there are many more to come.

Review #75: 7 Eleven’s Bacon Cheesburger

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

If you are walking home from the bowling alley, need some food, and pass a 711, go ahead and fork out the $2.50 for the bacon cheeseburger. It’s not high-quality at all, you microwave it for gosh sakes, but its full of micro-greasy-fatty-salty flavor. I used the comdiment bar to put onions and mustard in it. Be careful of microwaving it. It says use button #3 but I bet you can get by with #2.

And be careful if you drank a lot at the bowling alley. It may cause your stomach to stretch and it’s painful.

Review#74: Scarlett Johannson on Sesame Street (band)

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Street ScarlettThese guy’s myspace page got deleted. I wonder why, I was bummed. The problem I have with reviewing music is that it’s near impossible to use words to bescribe it. I’ll try anyway.

I saw these guys at my friends’ house, the 414 House, where they often hold shows with local or touring nobodies. The set up was bass, drums and a couple of keyboards. The keyboards all have a clean fuzzy tone to them, wich I love. The whole thing rested somewhere between free jazz and improve. It seemed that they had some progressions set up but the rest was off the cuff, especially the keyboards. If you’re into improve and/or noise you should check these guys out. The biggest criticism I have is that the rythm could be tighter, bass and drums more in synch. Other than that the sounds were gelling really well. Since the myspace page is down I’m not sure how to track them but If I can I definitley go see them again.

Keyboard guy was cute, too.

Review #73:Andre’s Strawberry champaigne

Monday, August 7th, 2006

This was suggested to me. I’ve had it before, but I thought I’d try it again. It’s too sweet and the alcohol content is less : (

Review#72: Lance Bass coming out

Friday, August 4th, 2006

On the cover of a magazine? I think it’s kind of tacky. He could have confirmed roumors without pulling an Ellen. At least nobody cares who he is anymore.
