Review #140: A Prarie Home Companion

This movie was pretty wonderful. Even without the incredible music, the actors really hit their marks. Although, while I liked Virginia Madsen in it, her whole part seemed odd. I guess that was the point. It’s funny, I remember she co-hosted the last season of Unsolved Mysteries, and she’s wearing a trenchcoat throughout this whole movie. That’s all I’ve ever really seen her in…oh, wait, I saw short/creepy/drunk/cute Paul Giamatti slobbering all over her in Sideways.
MY biggest gripe is with Lindsey Lohan. I had such hope for her after Mean Girls, but she never seems to deliver. Her character is probably the most forced, not really fitting into place at all. She’s a “troubled” teen who learns a valuable lesson. The only problem is I think she has her change of heart OFF SCREEN. She’s one way in one scene, then all different right away. I don’t really get it.
Other than that, this movie is rad. The cast is great, even Woody Harrelson does a good job. And Lily Tomlin’s still got it!
