Review #161: Found Hoodie

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

A long time ago Seth found a hoodie at the bowling alley. He later said I could have it because he didn’t want it and it didn’t fit. We both forgot about it. It snowed in Seattle the last couple of days and Seth gave me a ride home. While looking in the trunk for a brush to clear the windshield, he found the hoodie and tossed it to me. He then proceeded to clear off the windsheild with my umbrella, breaking it. This did not anger me, however, because the hoodie is really fucking sweet.
It’s like an indie rock accessory that I never really had. not a ZIP UP hoodie anyway. And now that I’m too old to be an indie rock kid, I can still rock it. In fact I think it’s given me magical powers. I just need to figure out what they are.

REview # 160: Strathmore watercolor paper

Monday, November 27th, 2006

This watercolor paper is much better than Academie. It does what watercolor paper should do.

Review # 159: Academie watercolor paper

Monday, November 27th, 2006

This watercolor paper sucks. It gets wrinkled and the water soaks right through making it transparent. It puckers and the fibers get loose, not being able to withstand the moisture.

Review #158: Bacon Pancakes

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

I got some of these today at the Original Pancake House. Thay are what you’d imagine: chopped up bits of bacon cooked into the pancakes. When I spread rich creamery butter on them it felt so wrong, but that was quickly dismissed by the feeling of it being sooooo right! The problem was the way it was served. You get six pancakes, wich is a bit over the top, and no sides. They were tasty, but I could have done with three pancakes and some eggs and/or hash browns.

Review #157: WE3

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I saw the ad for this comic and was intrigued. I like Grant Morrison AND Frank Quitely and when I saw the trade for this three issue mini-series I thought I’d pick it up. After flipping through it I thought maybe I’d made a mistake because I can get soft hearted sometimes and don’t particularly want to see cute little animals get torn apart and blown to peices. Quitley’s artwork in general, especially, seems to exploit the cuteness of things for darker means. After reading it, though, I was very pleased with my decision to buy it ($12.99).
The story is of three rogue killing machines made from a dog, a cat, and a bunny, all pets that had been kidnapped by the government for experiments. The cover of each single issue is a lost poster for each pet which of course tug at the heart strings. The pets are to be decomissioned, but decide to escape and find home instead leaving a trail of corpses along the way. The visuals and subject matter can get pretty grusome at times, but it’s overall a touching story. I would also retract previous statements about the differences between trades and graphic novels and say that this is both.

Review# 156: Work

Friday, November 17th, 2006

This may seem like an obvious statement, but work sucks. I wish I didn’t have to work tomorrow, I wish nobody had to work ever. Work gets in the way of so much living. argh.

Review #155: Shortbus

Friday, November 17th, 2006

I didn’t see this movie. It looks pretty good, and not just because there’s a bunch of sex in it. I bet I’ll be pissed that I missed it in the theater when I see it on dvd. It’s only playing through tuesday and I’m working through then. What happened is that I was late getting to Jeremy’s house so we missed the 5 o’clock show. Then he misread the Google listings, so we missed the 7:30 show. We are both retards. Man, I wish he didn’t have to work tonight.

Review # 154: PhilDay, Nov. 13th

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

A long time ago it came to my attention that people get really excited about the Super Bowl. I could give a rat’s ass about the Super Bowl, but for them it’s like a holiday. So, everyone but me gets an extra holiday? No way. So this year I decided to make my Super Bowl. I couldn’t think of an event that I could use to replace football. Comic conventions are far away and last for days, new comics come out every week and are nothing to celebrate. So I just took the date that Felix Unger got thrown out of his house, according to the Odd Couple television show’s voiced-over intro and decided to make it PhilDay. This was November 13th. And let me tell you, the first PhilDay was a huge success!

I was only able to extract one tradition from this holiday. Seeing as it’s the first one I think I’ll have plenty of time to concoct more in future years. This tradition is that you must drink a Sparx or other alcoholic energy drink brefore noon. If one is not available you may substitute it with a mimosa that has a ratio of 1 part orange juice to AT LEAST 3 parts champaigne.
So I did that, went to the video store and rented the second disc of Battlestar Galactica, season one, and This is Spinal Tap. Returning home, I cleaned the oven so I could cook the roast I had marinating. I proceeded to watch soaps, talk to some of my online friends and nurse a bottle of champaigne while eating summer sausage, Ritz and cheese.
I then tried to do some watercolor painting, but since I don’t do it that often anymore, I start with excercises like landscapes and stuff and stop before I do anything good. This time I did a bottle. again. The bottle looks good, but I have no idea what to paint around it. whatever.
Then J-devilishly-handsome-money, who I thought I wouldn’t get to see, called. He had an extra hour and said he’d stop by. *swoon* He came over, we made good use of the short visit, then he was off to work.
I finished the evening by watching Spinal Tap while eating my roast (a little dry), then alternating between episodes of Battlestar and Firefly, wich I am borrowing from Tony, all while drinking some Pike’s Kilt Lifter. I’m done with Firefly now, so I can finally watch Serenity.
All in all, not a bad day. I did everything I wanted to and then some. I can’t WAIT until next PhilDay. I’ll be sure to tell more Phils about it next time, though.

Review #153: Boy Bawang

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Today I went to Uwajimaya with a devilishly handsome man (or is he handsomely devilish?) and looked on in awe at all the asian products and produce that I had never seen before. It was decided that we needed to get a few things that we had no idea what they were. After some browsing Boy Bawang reared it’s hillariously named head. There was no question as to whether this should be purchased or not. We also got a bag of Ding Dong mixed nuts.

I opened up the bag when I got home and immediatley recognised the snack food as something closley related to CornNuts. However, these were garlic flavored and I don’t ever recall seeing a garlic flavored bag of CornNuts. Each peice is a bit smaller than a CornNut and not as hard or crunchy. The garlic flavoring is not too overbearing, either, although I’m sure it still lingers on the breath.
The Hello Boss coffee drink was very good. It was like…coffee in a can.

Review# 152: Stealing Bandwidth

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

On my review for Battlestar Galactica, I linked the image from another site. I looked at it today and the image was replaced by one that just said “I STEAL BANDWIDTH”. I admit that I’m a novice when it comes to computers. I had no idea I was even doing this. I doubt I was significantly reducing the bandwidth at all since my blog gets practically no traffic (that I know of). Still, It kind of made me feel like I was doing something bad. It’s been pointed out to me that me and my friends are theives. You know what? I’m gonna do it again. Hopefully I’ll at least save that image saying I’m stealing before I delete it this time.

Yup. There it is.
