Review #151: Neil Patrick Harris coming out

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

Woo-Hoo! We got a good one! This makes up for that Lance Bass thing. We also got that adorable guy from Grey’s Anatomy (a show I don’t watch), but this is more significant to me because way back when Doogie Howser was on, he was the first guy I ever had a crush on. Of course I didn’t realize it at the time, but looking back it makes total sense.
For the whole story go here.

I know some of you who know me are thinking “But neither of these guys have beards.” Hey, I break type once in a while.

Review #150: Josh’s Idea

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

MY friend Josh had the idea for my 150th review to be of my own blog. I think this is a bang-uip idea, but I have too much other stuff to review right now. Maybe I’ll do it for Review #200. Hey, it’s not my fault Doogie Howser came out today.

Review #149: Battlestar Galactica Miniseries

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

A few people now have told me that I should see this show. Today I finally got around to renting the 2003 miniseries. What can I say? Damn, this is good shit.
I’ve heard a few of the homosexual geeks I tend to cavort with fawning over that Apollo guy. I have to disagree and say that the hottest guy on the show is the rarely seen Capt. Kelly.

I also like how their sheets of paper don’t have corners. Anyone privy as to why this is? I have to stay away from researching this nit-picky knowledge to avoid spoilers. So don’t tell me if the corners of a sheet of paper are a huge part of the plot later on.

Review #148: Lone Ranger #1

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

I saw this at the comic book store yesterday and thought I’d give it a try. I’m glad I did. It seems pretty straight forward with the story of a Texas Ranger who, along with his brother and father, is ambushed by bandits. John, the Ranger, survives, but is left for dead. This first issue sets everything up quickly and cleanly. The end has one of the bandits looming over the body, noticing that he’s still alive right before an arrow goes through his throat. This is obviously Tonto and it was a good cliffhanger, seeing as how I am definitley going to pick up issue #2.

The art isn’t the greatest, but it’s better than a lot of comic art today and serves the western theme very well. I saw Cassaday on the cover, knowing full well that John Cassaday of Astonish X-Men fame had little or nothing to do with this book and they just used his name to draw people in. I was right, he only did the cover wich is a silouhuette of the Ranger on a horse. Anyone could’ve done that. Despite the deception, I will pick up the next one.

Review #147: Stephen Shore’s Biographical Landscape

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

This exhibit is being shown at the Henry Art Gallery on the University of Washington campus through December 31st. I recommend that you go. Preferably on a thursday if you want to get in for free.
The photos in this exhibit are of a lot of everyday things and places, like street corners and dishes of food. I was reminded of a lot of photos you might see in the liner notes of an album by a band like Sebadoh. I have often, inspired by such album designs, tried to capture interesting images of normal, mundane things. Stephen Shore, however, is a fantastic example of the difference between indie-rock self-indulgence and fine art (he’s the art one).

While there be sure to check out the Light Reign Skyspace thingie. It’s a nice, calming place. It’s also good for kissing. Someone told me that. Right before he kissed me.
