Review # 154: PhilDay, Nov. 13th

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

A long time ago it came to my attention that people get really excited about the Super Bowl. I could give a rat’s ass about the Super Bowl, but for them it’s like a holiday. So, everyone but me gets an extra holiday? No way. So this year I decided to make my Super Bowl. I couldn’t think of an event that I could use to replace football. Comic conventions are far away and last for days, new comics come out every week and are nothing to celebrate. So I just took the date that Felix Unger got thrown out of his house, according to the Odd Couple television show’s voiced-over intro and decided to make it PhilDay. This was November 13th. And let me tell you, the first PhilDay was a huge success!

I was only able to extract one tradition from this holiday. Seeing as it’s the first one I think I’ll have plenty of time to concoct more in future years. This tradition is that you must drink a Sparx or other alcoholic energy drink brefore noon. If one is not available you may substitute it with a mimosa that has a ratio of 1 part orange juice to AT LEAST 3 parts champaigne.
So I did that, went to the video store and rented the second disc of Battlestar Galactica, season one, and This is Spinal Tap. Returning home, I cleaned the oven so I could cook the roast I had marinating. I proceeded to watch soaps, talk to some of my online friends and nurse a bottle of champaigne while eating summer sausage, Ritz and cheese.
I then tried to do some watercolor painting, but since I don’t do it that often anymore, I start with excercises like landscapes and stuff and stop before I do anything good. This time I did a bottle. again. The bottle looks good, but I have no idea what to paint around it. whatever.
Then J-devilishly-handsome-money, who I thought I wouldn’t get to see, called. He had an extra hour and said he’d stop by. *swoon* He came over, we made good use of the short visit, then he was off to work.
I finished the evening by watching Spinal Tap while eating my roast (a little dry), then alternating between episodes of Battlestar and Firefly, wich I am borrowing from Tony, all while drinking some Pike’s Kilt Lifter. I’m done with Firefly now, so I can finally watch Serenity.
All in all, not a bad day. I did everything I wanted to and then some. I can’t WAIT until next PhilDay. I’ll be sure to tell more Phils about it next time, though.

Review #149: Battlestar Galactica Miniseries

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

A few people now have told me that I should see this show. Today I finally got around to renting the 2003 miniseries. What can I say? Damn, this is good shit.
I’ve heard a few of the homosexual geeks I tend to cavort with fawning over that Apollo guy. I have to disagree and say that the hottest guy on the show is the rarely seen Capt. Kelly.

I also like how their sheets of paper don’t have corners. Anyone privy as to why this is? I have to stay away from researching this nit-picky knowledge to avoid spoilers. So don’t tell me if the corners of a sheet of paper are a huge part of the plot later on.

Review#146 : Online Scrabble

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

Holy Shit, God does exist!!! I know this because I can play scrabble online! I made a friend online, as I’m prone to doing once in a while, who mentioned Scrabble. I bought a new Scrabble set a few months ago and have yet to use it. I can’t seem to get any friends to play with me, most likley because I rush home to get on the computer. This is the perfect solution!
If anyone wants to play, download this program and hunt me down. I’m usually on late at night. The program can be found here. My username is (duh) Inkstand.

Review #141: Godzilla Christmas Ornament

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

I don’t often get christmas ornaments, but when I see something cool like a robot, or the batmobile I have to pick it up. Last year I saw a Godzilla ornament, but of course they were sold out. This year I saw a new one and they were out AGAIN! Today, however, I got one. I guess they got a new shipment in. And it was the last one! It even makes sounds. Everything today rocks.

Review #136: Atlantic Grasshopper suitcase

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

I found this at a thrift store for $4. I’m certainly not planning a trip or anything, but I don’t have a real suitcase. This thing is so cool I couldn’t pass it up. Plaid is one of my favorite colors.
Today I had the brilliant Idea to look inside any pockets to see if there were any left over treasures. I found a couple of things. First, a clothespin and some safety pins:

Then a bar of soap from Travelodge, circa god knows when.

The best thing was this: The original key to the lock on the zipper! it says “presto” on it.

Man, I’m glad I bought this.

Review #126: My friend Nate, or GanjaRanja

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

So today at work a customer gave my buddy Nate a bit of pot as a gift of some sort. Nate is straight-edge, the coolest straight edge kid I know, but since he’s the only one I can geek out about comics with, that’s not saying much. Since he knows I like to smoke the marijuana, he gave it to me. I told him I loved him.
I don’t go looking for pot. I never buy it. But when it comes my way I don’t turn it down. And unless I’m at a party and have been drinking, I can only get high by myself. Some social paranoia thing, I don’t know. So now, hopefully PBS will air Red Dwarf and not try to raise any money for their free programming like they did last week*, and I will get to eat my fat steak, stoned and with beer. As to how good the pot is, I probably won’t report on that because it all kind of feels the same to me.
*Red Dwarf was NOT on again!!! It was a fucking Cream concert. Thanks, you old fossils.

Note from Inkstand: I promise that after this post I will stop using this forum to talk about myself, but start reviewing actual things again…in addition to talking about myself.

Review#111: Psycho Dream (SNES)

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

I played this on an emulator, and it was not translated. I have no idea what it’s about. I once heard that mushrooms were legal in Japan. I’ve always seen evidence to support that fact and this game is no exception. Its a side-scroller, and it seems easy enough. I just haven’t played very many video games (compared to “gamers”) so I get all frustrated and quit.

The room is supposed to look like that

Review # 108: Mac and Me (1988)

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

This is the kind of movie that makes kids stupid. It sells them short and makes them the insufferable little brats they are.
I don’t know why I was thinking of this movie today, but I was. My best friend and I rented it about two years ago and…*sigh* It was a long ass commercial for Coke. I remeber thinking this when I first saw it and I must have been 7 or 8 years old. The only thing that keeps them alive is Coke? And apparently Skittles. I guess it’s a good thing these aliens don’t have any teeth. These are the ugliest things…I can’t belive this is the best the producers could come up with. God, his face looks like a nutsack/ass cheek combo. The movie must’ve been made in real a hurry.

My favorite part of this disaster is the dance scene at the McDonalds. There are kids dancing in the parking lot even before the little bastard shows up! I was really hoping that I could find the clip on Youtube, but I had no luck. Maybe I’ll make Stephanie use her NetFlix account and I’ll post it myslef.

Review #107: The Dinosaurs (rough edit)

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Still photo, not playable!

About three years ago, my friends Jake and Garrett had this idea to make a movie about saving my life. From what? I don’t know, severe depression? Odd, since both were also susceptible to such emotions. I just watched the rough edit and I have to say it’s great. It’s more about our friends lives when we all lived in Arcata, CA. I promised Garrett I wouldn’t show it to anyone else yet. I’m giving him input and hopefully it’ll be done soon. I’ll keep you posted.

Review #106: Papermate Erasermate pen

Monday, September 18th, 2006

I was just drawing with this pen for a t-shirt design (if said shirts ever materialize my blog readers will be the first to hear about it) and recalled that they have been around for as long as I can remember. I can’t belive they have not become obsolete as many wonderful things have. They are also brilliant. I could never have gotten such a clean image with a pencil, because the tip always dulls, or a pen, because I can’t erase the sketchy marks. Yes, it’s still sketchy but very clean compared to what I would have had using one of those other writing instruments.
