Review # 86: Bombs Over Baghdad by Outkast

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

I love this song. It’s speed, it’s beats, it’s harmonies. The only problem is when I listen to it in the car, I drive WAAAAYYYY too fast.

Review#74: Scarlett Johannson on Sesame Street (band)

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Street ScarlettThese guy’s myspace page got deleted. I wonder why, I was bummed. The problem I have with reviewing music is that it’s near impossible to use words to bescribe it. I’ll try anyway.

I saw these guys at my friends’ house, the 414 House, where they often hold shows with local or touring nobodies. The set up was bass, drums and a couple of keyboards. The keyboards all have a clean fuzzy tone to them, wich I love. The whole thing rested somewhere between free jazz and improve. It seemed that they had some progressions set up but the rest was off the cuff, especially the keyboards. If you’re into improve and/or noise you should check these guys out. The biggest criticism I have is that the rythm could be tighter, bass and drums more in synch. Other than that the sounds were gelling really well. Since the myspace page is down I’m not sure how to track them but If I can I definitley go see them again.

Keyboard guy was cute, too.

Review # 48: Soul music collection infomercials

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

This has been playing while I’ve been typing, and I have to say you get the best clips of some fucking wonderful songs. Good…you get to hear a lot. Bad….you have to listen to sales pitches, and you don’t get the whole songs. in fact you get about 10 seconds of each. I’ll keep it on in the back ground, but I know I can download all these songs for free, so I won’t buy them…HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review # 30: “Filthy Gorgeous” by Scissor Sisters

Friday, May 19th, 2006

I’ve wanted to hear this song since my friend Betsy, playing off my nickname Filthy called me Filthy Gorgeous, also adding a variation on the name, Filgore. The song has a driving disco beat that is usually good for listening to headphones and walking down the street. The lyrics, mostly about drugs and sex, don’t quite apply to me as I am only filthy in the sense that I am a humongous slob. The vocal styling also started to grate on me about two minutes into the song. Then there was a spoken word part that leaves much to be desired, as most spoken word peices do. After that there is a breakdown that makes the song just too long, then back to the verses. So, to sum it up, I don’t really dig the song.

Review #11: How Ambulance LTD looks.

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

I haven’t heard this band at all, but I guess I sould. It would be the only polite thing to do after writing this review. My review is of this god-awful picture of them I came across. Why is every band now made up of ugly starving-looking mother fuckers who don’t know how to comb their hair? The “look” doesnt even always work, like the third guy from the left. That style just doesn’t suit him, but he’ll do it because I guess its all the rage in Brooklyn or whatever.
You know, The Strokes don’t even look like that anymore.
