Nornna
I found Nora’s videos while randomly browsing through YouTube.com - a new site where anyone can upload short films for the public to view. I’ve been hearing about the site, but when I went looking for certain things I just kept coming across videos by this same person, “Nornna”. I was a bit perplexed by what I was watching, but through some of her fans I gathered that she is in fact a growing celebrity in online video.
You’re going to have to watch some of the movies yourself to understand just how amazing they are: though I warn you, most of them have to do with very mundane things like eating, going to church, shopping - all basic staples for a 24 year old woman living in Wisconsin. But I insist that you browse through a few of them to see the insights they reveal. And don’t worry, they won’t be hard to find: one of the main reasons for her popularity is that she has completely flooded the servers with her clips, with roughly 700 uploaded in three months!!
What I find truly fascinating about Nora is that there is no “art snob” pretentiousness in these daily rituals of hers; she is being completely herself with very little ego involved. This is not some psuedo-Warhol shithead filming himself eating cereal. There is something much more revealing in these. In fact, many of Nornna’s fans attempt to film mundane moments in their own lives but they pale so much in comparsion - often feeling contrived and awkward, and most of all, boring.
But with Nornna, you get a real glimpse of what it is like to live her life and I am envious at how easily she can express it. And on top of that, she’s funny.
Here’s a new one where she talks about her rise in fame:
