Success in Business

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Here’s a sad little find:

Walking over the Aurora bridge from Queen Anne to Fremont, I found a picture of a young boy with the film flaking away from the source. It seemed so ashes-to-ashes forgotten, I picked it up and continued my trails over the pedestrian overpass. About twenty feet further, I found another photo, apparently of the same boy:

The fortune cookie diagonally criss-crossing the boy like a beauty contest sash disturbed me, but the real mystery revealed itself when I peeled away the business card adhesed to the back of the grade-school portrait and saw this:

What God Wants

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

I was having a lot of personal issues with a friend about a month ago, and all this shit was going on inside my head. I was really ripping this guy a new one in my head, and then all of a sudden I found this note:

I particularly like the top line (basically, cause I can’t read the rest of the post-it-note).

As far as I can tell it says “God wants to break your self will and will use the area that you are complaining about”

When I found this note, Amber was sure I had planted it :

Tom Hanks and Tighty Whities

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Long before the pitiful hairdo of the Da Vinci code, I considered Tom Hanks my personal sensai. Yes, I do believe I learned everything I neeed to know about sex, drugs, and transsexuals in a fine little film called “Bachelor Party”.

So it was with great pleasure that I found this card on the sidewalk down by Blietz Funeral Home in Fremont

Port Townsend and the Answering Machines

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

This weekend Amber and I went to Port Townsend to take a load off for Memorial Day. I filmed some footage from our wanderings through my parents land and Fort Worden State Park. Amber compiled some footage from the event (which you can watch below), and backed up the soundtrack with three bands that will be playing my house this weekend.

I’d have to say, that one of my favorite parts of the trip (other than the obvious copious amounts of making out), had to be the Port Townsend Community Thrift Store. This place was COMPLETELY untapped; boxes and boxes of home movies, records, junk computers – all unmarked and unfiltered.

Needless to say I had a field day.

One thing I realized that I should do more of when searching through other people’s junk: look for answering machines and pull out the tapes. I got about 20 analog recordings of ancient conversations forever preserved to magnetic strips. What Amber and I have noticed while listening to these little recordings is just how all of these people seem like charicatures – granddaughters rushed and bored wishing their grandma merry christmas, toddlers talking to their fathers far away on business trips, children discussing who’s friends with who and what teacher is a jerk. I promise I’ll put the good stuff up here in the future, but for now you’ll just have to settle with the best find of the weekend thus far:

So, I wanted to read you the …..

Private I Links

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

I’ve made a new section to the Boont Dustie site, geared specifically towards found items. You can navigate to it quickly through the top navigation menu (Journal, About, etc…).

——————–Private I —————————-

Once I had this dream that the demi-god of free boxes visited me (when I say “free” boxes, I mean the ones people leave out on the street corner.) This divine entity bore a striking resemblance to Samuel L. Jackson.

I’m trying to work out the reasoning behind why we founders do what we do. Are we sick voyeurs? Or is this is a spiritual endeavour?

While I continue to try and figure this out, here is a new collection of my favorite links all about found things, and/or private things made public.

1. Over Heard in New York – Eavesdropped conversations from the Big Apple.
2. 10 Eastern - My favorite part of this site are the photographs they lift off people’s shared directory’s using soulseek or some other filesharing client. There are also drawing boards for people to post anonymous pictures of their secrets.
3. Group Hug - anonymous online confessions.
4. Post Secret - people mail in their secrets on postcards.
5. Secret Web Cams - A google hack that allows anyone to view unsecured security cameras!
6. Is this you? - Perhaps reunite yourself with one of your long lost photobooth pictures.
7. Junior Bonner has a good list of sites about vernacular photography.
8.Found Magazine – Original canon.
9.Swapatorium A Journey Through Junkland – Flea Markets, Thrift Stores, Antique Shops, Garage & Estate Sales, Found Photographs, Collecting, Odd Finds, Swaps
10. Who Is Benjamin Stove? Website that claims to be trying to solve the mystery of a crop circle painting found at an estate sale, but also a possible viral marketing campaign (thanks Tim Boucher). Either way, fascinating!

My own personal found items:

1.A Pastor Is Fired: From what I can tell, this is a recorded meeting of a congregation of Eureka CA Baptists airing their grievances against their local pastor, and eventually taking “disciplinary” action and firing him. It has tons of drama and gossip and intense emotions – and I presume it was never meant to be heard in public.
2.Life Is Tough, God is Tougher: A whole slew of photos (of a youth pastor) I found in a knocked over garbage can. Not only did he toss out these jumbo size portraits, but I also got his thrown out answering machine with a message that leaves the whole affair an utter mystery.
3.Diary! - Excerpts from a diary I found.
4.
Dead Cat A flier about a dead cat.
5. The Hour Like The Rock obviously written by someone who’s taken one too many gravity bong hits.
6. God’s Promise – A little collage found in Berkeley.
7. Citibank This crazy guy thinks that Citibank is out to get him, and started posting these up around the Humboldt State campus.

More to come… (please send additional links to boontdustie AT gmail.com).

Diary!!!

Excerpts from a diary I found.

August 23, 1983

I arrived in Oslo and Denise and Christian surprised me with Lambie and Theresa. They were on holidary in Scandanavia. We had great fun. This night Lambie and Theresa came over for dinner and we sang drinking songs and drank aquivite (?). We had a blast and Theresa got really drunk. Well, we all did.
We started doing the rumba with a broomstick. I went over the top once and they broke the broom.

Denise’s wedding was beautiful. We drove up to the church in a Rolls Royce. Christian’s friend Karl drove us up to the church in a rolls royce with Bolero playing on the stereo.
The wedding was in a small church and Christian gave Denise away. The fun came after the wedding at the party. There were lots of speeches andI even had to give one. I made mine short and sweet. I sat next to Anders and we had a lot of fun. I started dancing with Karl and I started to get attracted to him.

The newlyweds left at 1:00 AM and the rest of the guests went on to Christians sisters house for soup. Karl and I kept dancing. He asked me if I wanted to see the rest of the house, we wandered around until we got to the sauna. Needless to say the gossip started flying.

I spent all of September in Zurich. Andrea found an apartment for us to stay in. We stayed with this girl name Briggette Steiner. She is a Swiss Air hostess. I worked really well and even did a show with Pat Cleveland.

I met Andrea’s boyfriend Sisco and we went to a little hotel called the Parediesli. Sisco’s a really great guy. We also had a going away party for Barbera Keaslin. That was really fun. We ate Italian food and got really drunk. Then we went on to a disco.

I haven’t made any decisions about Sam except that we are going to to have to do somethign about our sex life if we stay together. It really bothers me that he doesn’t have any money. I want to be with a man who at least has a progressive career. I was going to write a letter but I haven’t decided what to say yet.

November 21st

Andrea and I were in Zurich 2 weeks ago and we saw Ricci. We played a funny trick on him. We dressed up in all black and had candle light and wine in the living room for him. Andrea draped herself on the couch and I showed him in. We went with Martiz Neville to hear country western music. It was a blast.

lulugirl (9:22 PM) :
Remember the little notes you thought about leaving in the libaray books at humboldt[Humboldt State University Library]

garrett (9:22 PM) :
yeah? i did that a couple of times…

lulugirl (9:22 PM) :
Well i had a dream about that the other night

garrett (9:22 PM) :
what about it?

lulugirl (9:22 PM) :
This girl fell in love with them and you. And then she did this genelogy search …..and you had been dead for hundreds of years.

10-916-354 (9:24 PM) :
Interesting… That would be cool to do that again in the library, with clues for where more of the poems were hidden.

lulugirl (9:25 PM) :
She was so crazy about the poems she tried to find ancestors to find out who you were and what you really were like.

garrett (9:26 PM) :
Wierd. That’s like the goners[see also: Boont Dusties, "The Dinosaurs", etc...] dream come true, you realize.

lulugirl (9:26 PM) :
The twist of this dream is when she finds your ancestors she knows more about you then they did and she tells your great great great great grand daughter about you

garrett(9:27 PM) :
That’s like my own personal love – finding things from people who are long gone, and just loving them so much and wondering what that person was like. Jake showed me an old photograph of a girl, his favorite one and said “my long lost girlfriend.” Old black and white. He had a whole collection of them.

I reached into a garbage can at HSU and found this piece of paper.

“On Friday night, I was in my bed room with Seth Binderup, Gilbert, Sean, Kat, Megan, Liz, and Kim. All of us had decided to get drunk, I was useing the beer bong and eventually passed out in the bed while Gilbert was massaging Kim, then I woke up and urinated on the drinking fountain, then I got shocked cus I hit the electrical outlett.

On Saturday night I was tripping on shrooms and I had wandered every ware I went to the canyon and talked to my friends then I went to Mock Rock with some friends then I went to Todd, Steve, and Davids house then we went to the basketball party which was bad. I had found out I might have gaul stones.
